31 Jan 2014 11:19* Ladies and gentlemen, we have exited the vortex: temperature in Central Park at 11am is 32F/0C, which is the first time over/at freezing since Monday, when we had a brief fling with 40 before it went down to 15. And before that, it was... a long time ago. Lemme tell you, after a week of wind chills hovering around 0F, this feels like spring.
* Marvel has coughed up a few one-sheets for Captain America: the Winter Soldier and they are... curious. Let's go with curious. The Fury one is fine, appropriately Badass Bureaucrat. The two Steve shots are acceptable, one with lid and one without. The Natasha one, however, is offensive and ridiculous. ScarJo is photoshopped to have her waist nipped in, among other "improvements" and the shampoo commercial hair flip and dead-eyed expression are similarly no good -- she is a dirty, bad-ass character and not whatever this is. Decorative.
There are no posters yet for Sam Wilson/Falcon or the Winter Soldier, which ought to be on the way. There will be a new trailer running as a Superbowl spot, along with a Guardians of the Galaxy teaser. There are previews of the trailer running around the internet now, though.
* MCU fic roundup, since I was spitting them out at a pace this fortnight: Artefactual (Steve), Still Life (Steve), and Qeryana (Thor).
* Just finished Robert Gates's Duty: memoirs of a secretary at war (I love NYPL's ebooks) and it's interesting enough with the details, although perhaps short of the salacious stuff everyone on both sides of the spectrum was hoping for. The takeaway point is possibly that Biden's a more dangerous idiot than we'd like him to be, but I think Gates is fair to all sides and clearly has a lot of respect for President Obama even as he has little for the White House staff that work around him.
