The Pitt: Now You Know by cold_cereal
19 Mar 2026 15:36Characters/Pairings: Michael "Robby" Robinavitch/Dennis Whitaker, Trinity Santos, Jack Abbot
Rating: Explicit
Length: 24,437 words
Creator Links: cold_cereal on AO3
Theme: siblings,
Summary: When Whitaker accidentally sends a dick pic to Dr. Robby, he never thought it would end like this.
Reccer's Notes: Well now...
With a summary like that you would expect nothing more than a PWP, but this is the furthest from that. We all know that Whitaker comes from Broken Bow, Nebraska and grew up on a farm with 3 brothers. But we never get any of that backstory - toxic or good - in canon.
Well that backstory shows up here, almost like there needed to be a wonderful plot to go along with the accidental dick pic share. We get to see Whitaker's parents and his brothers - and how he and one of his brothers escaped that small-town/small-mindedness. I'm not saying his one brother that "escaped" the mentality is all that great, but I know these small-town folks. Hell, I'm related to a lot of them. And I can read a compliment from what sounds like a bigot trying to do better, even if they don't have a frame of reference for that.
Basically, this is a fic about getting out of a small town, and leaving the small-mindedness behind.

february booklog of excess
19 Mar 2026 21:23( 18. The Shots You Take - Rachel Reid ) Fairly forgettable, but still entertaining enough to keep me reading.
( 19. The Spy Who Loved Me - Ian Fleming ) I don't think Fleming is for me, but there was some enjoyment available.
( Greenwing and Dart - Victoria Goddard ) Fluffy, fun (despite a substantial amount of mortal peril) and a generally satisfying binge.
( 26. How to Win Friends and Influence People - Dale Carnegie ) Dated but I think still worth reading.
( 27. Holiday in Death, 28. Festive in Death, and 29. Framed in Death - JD Robb ) I always enjoy these - but particularly liked the opportunity to revisit the early part of the series in contrast to the newer state of things!
( 30. Derring-Do for Beginners - Victoria Goddard ) I was hoping for more actual, you know, Red Company, but this was so much fun I can't have too many regrets.
( 31. Jane Austen: A Life - Claire Tomalin ) I think this is probably as enlightening as it could reasonably have been, but I was a little disappointed, somehow, despite learning a fair amount. It's not badly-written at all, but it never really won me over somehow.
( 32. Chain-Gang All-Stars - Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah ) Ultra-violent, really thumpingly Message-y, and strangely compelling; I don't think I'll ever want to re-read it, but I am interested to see where Adjei-Brenyah goes from here.
( 33. Blood Sport, 35. The Edge, and 37. Risk - Dick Francis ) A trio of delightfully exciting nonsenses; I'm so sorry I didn't discover Francis years ago, but on the other hand at least they are a source of joy for me now.
( 34. Men Explain Things to Me - Rebecca Solnit ) A short but concentrated dose of feminist rage.
( 36. Outcrossing - Celia Lake ) On paper this absolutely should be my jam, but it entirely is not.
( 38. Batman: Wayne Family Adventures vol 2 - CRC Payne and Starbite ) Adorable. This series is just so fun.
( 39. Just One Damned Thing After Another - Jodi Taylor ) This is a fun concept, but the archaeology / history is worse than in Connie Willis' Oxford Time Travel books and that's saying something. I didn't hate it, but I had to disconnect my brain way too much to enjoy it.
( 40. Ambiguity Machines - Vandana Singh ) A really excellent collection, even though I couldn't muster quite the delight I wanted from it.
( 41. Get A Life, Chloe Brown - Talia Hibbert ) I enjoyed this, although I'm not sure if I'll read more Hibbert.
Marvel, Minifigures: JUSTICE LEAGUE QUARTERLY #3 (JLI 71)
19 Mar 2026 12:37
This is Giffen, Jones,
and Mike McKone’s
story about zones
full of dead bones
and a grieving guy who groans
and moans
when the plan he hones
ends worse than Game of Thrones.
The two Justice Leagues are getting together for an “ice cream social” to mix and mingle. It’s healthy and good workplace management from Max and Catherine. So, naturally, it somehow leads to League-adjacent personnel f#cking around with the fabric of time.
( Last time the X-Men had a casual Friday, it gave rise to a version of the Phalanx made out of denim. )
NS: Banksy revealed?
19 Mar 2026 10:13So we set out to determine how Banksy did it – and who he really is. Weeks later, a reporter visited Horenka with a photo lineup of graffiti artists often rumored to be the artist and showed the pictures to locals to see if anyone recognized him. Not long after, we heard that a famous British musician – one of the people often whispered to be Banksy – had been spotted in Kyiv, giving us a theory to pursue.
Reuters interviewed a dozen Banksy-world insiders and experts. None would comment on his identity, but many filled in details about his life and career. We examined photos of the artist, most of which obscured his face but contained critical information. We later unearthed previously undisclosed U.S. court records and police reports.
These included a hand-written confession by the artist to a long-ago misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct – a document that revealed, beyond dispute, Banksy’s true identity.
And in the process, we learned how and why the man behind the name Banksy vanished from the public record more than a decade ago.

陈情令 | The Untamed: Moments of Revelation by Meyari
18 Mar 2026 19:10Pairings/Characters: Jiang Cheng & Wei Wuxian & Jiang Yanli, Jiang Cheng/Nie Huaisang (background), Wei Wuxian/Lan Wangji (background), Lan Xichen, Jin Zixuan, Meng Yao, Wen Zhuliu
Rating: R for Graphic Depictions of Violence and Major Character Death
Length: 133,987 words
Creator Link:
Themes: Siblings, Time Travel Fix-It, Women Being Awesome, Trauma & Recovery
Summary: As the Jianghu collapses around Jiang Cheng's ears, his borrowed core begins to fail. Wei Wuxian has one final trick up his sleeve, though the only person who can use it is the one person who has no core of his own: Jiang Cheng. Time travel may be impossible for everyone else, but Jiang Cheng has one slender, delicate chance to save the entire world. Of course he has to take it no matter what the cost might be.
Reccer's Notes: As soon as I saw this month's theme, I thought of this story. While time travel fix-its and core reveal fix-its are both common in the fandom, this story handles both tropes in ways I haven't seen any other story do. It also features amazing original characters, including several badass women of the Meishan Yu sect, and gives Jiang Yanli one of the best storylines I've ever seen. The rating is because there's still a war, and some characters still die, but it's a far different war, and they are far different deaths.
I do feel like I have to provide a caveat that this could use a serious line edit, by which I mean there is a grammatical or spelling error in nearly every sentence. It really says something that, despite this, I couldn't put the story down, and devoured all 100K+ words of it in the space of two nights.

voluntary constraint of choice: a rediscovery
18 Mar 2026 16:38In mid-February I got fed up of all the half-read things in my ebook reader, so I went through and tagged a bunch of them - things I wanted to read, things I meant to get around to, etc - in a special collection, and then said "OK now you can only read things from this collection". I started out with 25 books, but added a few more either because a) they were new Dick Francis books that I wanted to read (2 books), or b) they were for a book group meeting that I had suddenly realised was approaching (2 books). Since then I have read only one ebook not in that collection (another book group! but a chapter-by-chapter one, so I don't want to read the whole thing yet), one paper book (oh look for a different book group), and a few chapters of other paper books, and the collection is down to 12.
It's actually been tremendously productive as an approach ( rambling about my reading habits )
In conclusion, it's been great for my reading but terrible for my booklog, which is sadly behind even though I've been working on it reasonably regularly.
The Mortal Thor #7 - "The Accelerationist"
17 Mar 2026 22:34
Ryan was telling me, "Oh, we're going to do this scene in the Doom crossover book." And I was like, "I don't think Thor would say that." And Thor did kind of say that. And I was like, we have to kill Thor now, we have to kill him. I mean, he was being reborn anyway but now he's got to be reborn. -- Al Ewing

Pairings/Characters: Darcy/Elizabeth, Georgiana, Jane/Bingley
Rating: Teen
Length: 75k
Creator Links:
Theme: siblings, old fandoms, book fandoms, novel length, AU, family,
Summary: Without Lady Catherine's interference, a family catastrophe throws Darcy and Elizabeth down wildly different paths.
Reccer's Notes: This series is very much Darcy/Elizabeth, but they spend a lot of it going down separate paths. And on those separate paths, their closest relationships are with their siblings--Darcy and Georgiana, Jane and Elizabeth. I love the care that is taken with all of the different relationships in this story.

17 Mar 2026 21:25Pairings/Characters: Steve/Bucky
Rating: Gen
Length: 4k
Creator Links:
Theme: siblings, AU, family
Summary: Bucky was the eldest of four.
Reccer's Notes: Bucky has four younger siblings, and in 2015 they are elderly, crotchety, and determined to go see Steve Rogers. Getting there is an ordeal, and what they find there is a surprise. I love the way the characters are so well-drawn and realistic, and I love the humor.

Content notes: racist and homophobic language

Summary: Kareen protects her children.
Reccer's Notes: This is such a fascinating AU about Kareen, Alys, Gregor, Ivan, and what might have happened.

Rating: Gen
Length: 7k
Creator Links:
Theme: siblings, AU, fork in the road, family, gen, old fandoms, book fandoms
Summary: Gregor need not have worried.
Reccer's Notes: Gregor Vorbarra is Emperor of Barrayar, and he has monsters in his family tree. His father Serg was a rapist and a murderer who died when he was a small child (and Serg's own father Emperor Ezar arranged his death), and his great uncle was Mad Emperor Yuri who was paranoid and homicidal and awful. Gregor understandably has issues about his family.
But what if Ezar had seen the sort of person Serg was, and how many monsters are in the family tree, and not only made sure Serg died before inheriting the throne, but also ... made sure that Serg would not father the next emperor of Barrayar?
This is a short but compelling AU. The series is marked incomplete, but there are no dangling plot threads and it hasn't been updated in over a decade.

Summary: “We were very close.” Sola says, and Leia smiles her politician's smile in response.
This woman is convinced she and her sister were the best of friends. And she’s telling the secret daughter, from a secret marriage, all about it.
Leia doesn't need the force to know it wasn't true.
Reccer's Notes: This is about Padmé and her sister Sola, but it's also about Luke and Leia, and about family, and about memory.

Content Notes: no AO3 warnings apply.
spoilery content note
Rodney and John weren't raised as brothers, but they discover they are. After having fucked. This causes some angst for a while, and Rodney's rationalisations are amusing.Creator Links: speranza on AO3, speranza's own site
Themes: Siblings, Action/adventure, Family, AU, AU - fork in the road
Summary: "Jean isn't your sister," Rodney said, speaking to John as if he was a small child. "Jean is my sister."
John's whole face changed. "What?"
Reccer's Notes: Written as a slightly cracky Harlequin fic, this is a favourite story of mine, full of action, adventure, and family complications. John and Rodney meet at Patrick Sheppard's funeral and afterwards happen on an alien artifact at his apartment. A wild ride ensues as they try to get it to Area 51. Rodney's a physicist and John's air force, but at the start, neither of them know about the Stargate program. There's lots of excellent drama, romance, and snark as they gradually discover all the secrets their parents hid from them.

Flow #1
16 Mar 2026 15:00
"I’m so anxious to share this story, which was inspired by politicians wanting to ban sex ed and basics about biology in schools. It got me thinking about how the resulting void of info could be exploited—which, in this case, is done by bullies at a nature camp. And a decade later, their actions come back to haunt them. It’s a bit like Carrie meets Yellowjackets. I’m grateful that Mad Cave gave us total freedom to let the narrative—and the blood—flow.” -- Paula Sevenbergen
