The comics storyline was stupid and a classic case of too many cooks spoiling the broth, like most massive crossovers but with an added layer of "half the writers didn't understand the grand arc" confusion. The movie was a classic case of the principal actor stealing the story and the screen time and everything else being warped to accommodate it. And nobody knew what they were writing about.
