I tapped in to NYC Comicon today (I've got a 4-day professional pass for being in a related industry). I had less than an hour to wander around, but some highlights and some comics recs:

* The Weta booth is full of pretty.

* The Batman display has Batcave-esque cases for each of the Batmovie suits, from Keaton to Affleck, and I really want to know if they’re life-size because if they are, George Clooney (batnipples!) is really tiny.

* Lots of excellent cosplay.

* Indy comics. I don’t buy floppies anymore and, understandably, this is not what these creators want to hear. Some have digital options, which I will support because they don’t add clutter, and a few have trades. And a few only have the floppies and I felt like a heel walking away. I might break down by the end of the weekend. Some books of note, free of zombies, vampires, and dragons:
  • Moros: A Hard Boiled Hero: They had me at “Do you like noir?” One issue out, digital and floppy.
  • M3: Single issues, digital, TPB. It looks like it’s kinda Haywire: the comic, but, hey, a female-led thriller isn’t the worst thing and it looked well-drawn.
  • Yi Soon Shin: “Based on the true story of Admiral Yi Soon Shin, a Korean naval commander who saved his people from Japanese invasion forces during the Imjin War (1592-1598).” This looked gorgeous and hey, non-western historical fiction.
  • Bliss on Tap books: guys at the booth were really nice and enthusiastic. I liked the concepts of I Play the Bad Guy and Future Proof, but take a look around and see what floats your boat.
Will be back for the rest of the con and, hopefully, a few panels. (I missed the one I had wanted to get to — worldbuilding in comics!) And the buying will commence....
