It has been nine months since I posted here, apparently, and I didn't mean to make it such a hiatus, especially because I check in every other day or so and have kept up with all of your adventures.

(I post on tumblr because it's generally low-effort, but I also sometimes post meta and other stuff and it's the WORST environment for that.)

It has been a year, peeps. I've finished school, switched jobs, learned how to drive, and am currently failing spectacularly at moving to my duty station. Which hasn't mattered because we're all still WFH, but that will be changing imminently and I'm still hundreds of miles away.

I haven't had much of a brain for fanfic with everything going on, especially when all of my outstanding WIPs are over 100k words and rereading them to figure out where I was is so consuming. And I don't have an active fandom right now to spark a fic surge the way The Old Guard did last summer. I miss writing, y'all.

That said, I kinda did figure out what happens with Qui Habitat and have outlined it through Chapter 37 (it's posted through 28). I have to suck it up and start killing off meaningful people, though, and I dread that. The outlining is still work, though, and then I have to write the story. But someone read through the series on ao3 the other week and commented throughout and that felt SO GOOD. I don't get a lot of comments on any stories these days, let alone one like that.

Time has not at all healed my MCU wounds or revivified my fandom interest. It's not dead officially or intentionally, just... I come from the comics and I've had decades of being able to let stupid canon decisions roll off my back, but it's been hard here. Maybe because it's only one canon and not the "character appears in ten different books with eight different writers and some get it better than others" where I have options. And the end state of Endgame just pissed me off on so many levels, which does not play well with my Canon Whore tendencies. So returning to writing a Steve/Peggy story when I still feel rage at how canon handled that... I can't for more reasons than that time travel is now a completely different thing.

(I suspect the tumblr discourse hasn't helped, where everything is so politicized and it's Team Tony and Team Steve the way it's Team Democrats and Team Trump and each thinks the other is evil and perverted for believing what they believe. I filter proactively and excessively, but you can't keep it all away when sometimes it's not the tags it's the gif selection.)

I'm hilariously behind on consuming media there, too, despite the Disney+ subscription. I can't finish The Falcon and the Winter Soldier because it bores me and the early worldbuilding decisions annoyed me. Loki was good, although I have issues with the last episode -- nowhere near the degree that I had issues with the last episode of WandaVision. I haven't seen any of the movies despite wanting to. I watch hockey instead.

So that's me. How've you all been?

Great to hear that you're still around. Hockey is a good, forever fandom in that it regularly breaks our hearts, but also constantly renews us. (Even when favs get traded away, injuries screw the team up - and are the only reason more favs aren't yet traded away from the cap since once more the GM decided to get the most expensive player on the market to fill one hole and create who knows how many more when Eichel gets healthy and salaries get purged.) The Rangers seem to be doing well with Gallant.

Vegas is the epitome of 'root for the laundry, not the player' because good lord McPhee and McCrimmon are quick to get rid of anyone in pursuit of the big shiny. But Pacioretty has been incredible this season, yeah?

Patches has just been so much fun to watch since he came back from his broken foot; broke the record last night for the VGK's longest goal run. I still love Vegas and want to see them with the Cup, but there are so many new players this year that I'm having trouble feeling like they're my team. And while McPhee and McCrimmon aren't above bringing someone in, signing them to a good contract and then trading them anyway, I fear for who's going to be out once Eichel's healthy. We just don't have many of the original misfits left, and that's the team I fell in love with.

I watched the game last night! Actually, I watch a fair bit of VGK games because I usually turn on a 'late' game after the East Coast games end and I like their announcers. (And Gary Lawless, expanding both circumferentially and into the first intermission.) I get it about the team not being the lovable misfits born in both tragedy and long odds -- and that the team nearly bankrupted the Strip remains a hilarious fact to me -- and nobody *really* wants to root for laundry. Winning is not, in fact, the only thing.

Nothing much has changed for me. I had stopped consuming Marvel canon (and only participating in Marvel fandom through gifsets and reading the occasional fic) a couple of years ago, and have not regretted it. I'm mostly in Star Trek and Star Wars now, but like, old school stuff, not the stuff that's actually coming out now.

In the past when I've lost love/patience with a fandom I've been able to transition to a new fandom that sparks my creativity. Once in a while, though, I fall out of love and into a void and that's where I am.

I haven't even seen Civil War, not to mention anything afterwards, though it doesn't stop me from getting angry over some canon desicions:). Saw some fragments of The Avengers accidentally on youtube recently, maybe it's time to rewatch :).

Consumed media is still mostly Chinese dramas (the latest one even gave me enough kick to start writing again, though it's diffucult without an active fandom) with one notable exeption of Central Russia Vampires :). Oh, and I started watching snooker again :), after 10 year break. Half of the players are still the same ones, though:).

Civil War was, in hindsight, the beginning of the end. Black Panther and Captain Marvel were distractions from the decline, but my frustration with CA:CW and everything that followed is what killed my interest. The Civil War arc in the comics was stupid, but it also got undone within 18 months and it was hard to be mad about it after a while.

Snooker, like curling and golf and a few other low-impact activities, is one where the greats can be the greats for decades and not age out the way they do in hockey or cricket or baseball. There's comfort in that continuity, I suppose. "Oh, hey, you're still here? Cool, I know what you do..."

I've watched a few people here get sucked into Kdramas and Chinese period pieces. :) I'm a sucker for historical dramas, but I hate soap operas and thus my hesitation...

In snooker, the last two tournaments were unexpectedly won by two young and upcoming players, so behold - intrigue! :) And another plus, I really like new young Russian snooker commentators on Eurosport, well-read guys with nice sense of humor (and they are even able to pronounce Chinese names correctly! Yay!)

Chinese period dramas are numerous, and most of them are awful:), but when they are good, they are good. And it's not a soap opera then, it's a long complicated story carefully told without haste :). There are political dramas, adventure stories, mysteries, etc. Autopsy in 9th century China, for example, is an art in itself :). The latest one (the one I'm currently writing 20 years of happy post-canon for :)) got me partly because of a complicated political conflict with really good people on every side. If you decide to dip your toe in, I'll be happy to give recs:).

My tumblr timeline seems to have gotten taken over by The Untamed to the point that I had to block the tag because it was just an endless stream of fey and androgynous men making faces at each other. I'm sure there's more to it, but I couldn't tell you how much more. ;)

Well, The Untamed easily has the biggest fandom:). I haven't watched it myself or read the web-novel it is based on, but a number of my friends are in the fandom one way or another (there are lots of live action RPGs, for intstance). As far as I can tell, it's a kind of media which is really fandom-generating (for a number of reasons, not just because of epic gay romance between the main characters), but is far from the masterpiece itself. Unlike, say, Nirvana in Fire, which is a wonderful example of TV as an art.

I don't really know what else to say. I live too! And I know what you mean about feeling the lack of a fandom. I feel a bit cast-about. I'm excited about the new season of The Expanse, and I'm enjoying the Hawkeye tv show so far. My football team is inching slowly up the table toward promotion, or at least playoffs, so I am getting ready for the inevitable disappointment in the spring.

I should catch up on The Expanse. I was caught up for a while, then there were new seasons I completely forgot existed until I recently saw some griping about how the last season's compressed and the lesser for it.

My only hesitation about starting the Hawkeye series is how much I grew to dislike the Fraction comics by the end -- and my loathing of how fandom turned that canon into MCU fanon. MCU Hawkeye is based on Ultimates Hawkeye and I loved him deeply from his introduction in an otherwise execrable comic and to see his movie incarnation replaced by the captain of Fraction's failboat... I don't want to see that 'for real' and not just in a fanfic.
