MCU fandom: Modern Day Steve Rogers is absolutely a dog guy and every cute animal representation of him will be as a golden retriever.


MCU Modern Day Steve: Solitary creature. Has precisely one person he loves (Bucky) and a small group of people he tolerates to varying degrees (the Avengers) and that’s it for beings he willingly spends time with. Jumps from high places because he can. Is more than capable of being an asshole before dawn for his own entertainment (ask Sam, who is never running with him again). Generally prone to property damage. Is working on his third life, at least. Is not going along with whatever you have planned for him if he doesn’t feel like it. Let’s emphasize that disregard for authority one more time.

Oh, this is so very accurate. I've always wondered a bit where golden retriever characterization comes from, because it very much doesn't match what seems to actually be in the movies.

Also, well, fandom's view of Cap is not necessarily what's on the screen in general. He's not naive or simple or an old fuddy-duddy and he's heard of blow-jobs (and probably gotten a few) and yet here we are with how many Virgin!Steve fics where the poor guy's never seen naked boobs and can't get pop culture references... they want him to be a golden retriever, so he is. Just like they want Tony to be a woobie.

The golden retriever bit makes not the slightest bit of sense - Steve Rogers is a New Yorker who grew up in the Great Depression. He is kind because he believes the world to be unkind, and when he's not being kind, he's a stubborn bastard who will apply percussive maintenance to the US until it gives in and stop fucking around.

Conclusion: Steve Rogers is some kind of working breed dog, possibly a collie.

To be fair, if he didn't have such a complete inability to ignore People Being Wrong, I would totally agree. I think he would like to be a cat. But people just keep being wrong.
